Azerbaijan to expand freight traffic along Middle Corridor
This year, it is planned to remove bottlenecks to increase freight traffic along the Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route).
Fariz Aliyev, head of transport policy department of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, said this in a conversation with Report.
According to him, positive dynamics is expected in freight traffic along the Middle Corridor: "The volume of transit freight traffic of Azerbaijan in the first quarter of this year amounted to 4 million tonnes. It is planned that by the end of the year the figure will exceed 16 million tonnes".
Aliyev noted that sufficient investments have been made in the Middle Corridor.
"At a trilateral meeting of the foreign and transport ministers of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Türkiye in the city of Aktau, the Road Map for 2022-2027 on the development and operation of the Middle Corridor route was signed. We are working with partner countries to increase the volume of freight traffic. Joint initiatives are important in this direction," he said.
