Armenian lawmaker emphasizes security benefits of border demarcation with Azerbaijan

In an interview with Armenian media, Arsen Torosyan, an MP from Armenia's ruling Civil Contract party, weighed in on the ongoing process of delimitation and demarcation of the border with Azerbaijan.

Torosyan expressed a perspective that underscores the complexities and sensitivities surrounding this issue, Caliber.Az reports.

"I did not choose to have an Azerbaijani as our neighbour, and a resident of Kirants (Guney - ed.) or Baganis did not choose an Azerbaijani as his neighbour, so yes, after demarcation, an Azerbaijani should stand on the border,” he said.

"Demarcation itself is an integral part of the security guarantee: if a state has a border, it is a higher level of security than when there is a line of contact and two armed forces are slowly watching each other, waiting to see who will raise their heads and shoot at each other. Obviously, this is a measure that increases our security, not decreases it, even if the Azerbaijani border guard comes closer," the MP said.
