Armenia’s provocations designed to attract international attention - Turkish expert

01 September 2023 20:07

The head of the Turkish Institute of Strategic Thinking, Rtd. Maj-Gen, Associate Professor Guray Alpar has said that defeated Armenia continues committing various provocations to attract attention of the international community.

“Armenia occupied the Azerbaijani sovereign territories in the 1990s, thus violating the norms of international law. During the war, the Armenian military committed brutal massacres and genocide against the Azerbaijani civilians, not sparing even women and children,” Alpar told Report.

“However, the Armenian occupying forces were defeated and suffered big losses during the second Garabagh war thanks to the heroism of the Azerbaijani army and the determination of the country's leadership. Despite the defeat, Armenia continues committing provocations. Armenians used an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) against the positions of the Azerbaijani army today. As a result, two Azerbaijani servicemen were wounded. The response of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces was tough and resolute. The Armenian Defence Ministry stated that as a result of the counterattack of the Azerbaijani army, two soldiers were killed and one soldier was wounded. This shows their powerlessness. Armenia still does not realise that any provocations harm itself,” the expert said.

Alpar noted that the Armenian authorities are well aware that the Azerbaijani army has a significant advantage.

“Armenia continues playing the role of a `victim’ and is trying to convince the international community that Azerbaijan is an aggressor. However, the whole world knows that Armenia is an occupying country that does not want peace. It will be difficult to ensure stability in the region until Yerevan abandons its occupation policy,” he stressed.
