Armenian illegal immigrants mow down farmer at protest in France
Illegal immigrants from Armenia, who had been under an expulsion order, were in a car that ran over a farmer at a protest in France, killing the man, TASS reports citing Le Parisien newspaper.
According to the newspaper, which cites a source close to the investigation, three people from Armenia were in the car and were arrested on the spot. The illegals had been seeking refugee status since 2022, but were refused in autumn 2023 and ordered to leave the country's territory. The police said there was no urgent need for their immediate deportation because they were not registered with the intelligence services.
The police are now investigating whether there had been a deliberate attack on the farmers who were on the stretch of motorway in protest. Tests on the 44-year-old driver showed no traces of drugs or alcohol in his blood.
Earlier, a car hit three people during a protest by farmers on the N20 motorway in the department of Ariège in southern France, Arnaud Rousseau, head of the National Federation of Farmers' Unions, said. All three were members of the same family. A 32-year-old woman died on the spot, while her husband and 14-year-old daughter were taken to hospital in a serious condition.
